Singgit Sinulog!

Posted by iAMjett™ 6:54 AM, under | No comments

Here comes another el grande and festive year of Cebu's most anticipated mardi gra, their very own and the prestigious Sinulog Festival. It calls for another one of a kind fun-filled celebration of the feast of the Senyor Santo Niño de Cebu.

Held every 3rd Sunday of January, the Sinulog Festival is one of the many grand fiestas the Philippines takes pride on. Needless to say it is one of the grandest and most colorful festivals in the Philippines with a very rich background. Locals and tourists eagerly head their way to the metropolis of Cebu province to join the many scheduled events. From the flaunting of beauties of the Miss Cebu pageant, left and right nightly street parties and events, bazaars, mall sales and trade fairs, solemn mass, processions and fluvial parade, down to the most highlighted street dancing and Grand Sinulog Mardi gra competition - the local government of Cebu, specifically the Sinulog Foundation Inc., never fails to take all the necessary preparations to make this yearly event different like no other.

I've come to witness myself the grandeur of this festivity during my 4-year stay in the metropolitan Cebu and I must commend that such festival is a treasure of the Queen City of the south. Their celebration, apart from paying high homage to the patron child Senyor Santo Niño or the child Jesus, also proudly shows the whole world how colorful and fun the Filipino culture is, particularly the Cebuanos'. While there are also a number of other locations in the Philippines that simultaneously celebrate the feast of Senyor Santo Niño, Cebu is always taking the pride of center staging one of the country's most colorful displays of pomp and pageantry: a time where the streets of Cebu City are arrayed with bright-colored dancers in costumes pumping up to the rhythm of trumpets, drums, and native gongs.

Tomorrow's going to mark another history as the streets of Cebu culminate another authentic jubilation. Like the heavy rain has not stopped the influx of the many gathered by faith during the solemn procession earlier, tomorrow's awaited annual grand event will never, by any means, be over-powered by a mere cascading of rain fall as the streets will be filled once again with enthusiastic individuals, locals, tourists, vendors and pedestrians alike all wanting to witness the galore of colors and street-dances.

It is just too bad that this time around I'm not there to witness another momentous event..nonetheless, this will not baffle me to exclaim to my heart's content, "ViVa Pit Senyor!"
