“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” with its silver-screen opening across the Philippines this May 2011 includes two Fil-American actors Michael Rosales and Daphne Joy. These two are on-board with Johnny Depp in another adventure quest for the Fountain of Youth; the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
Sources has it that Michael Ilano Rosales is a multicultural actor/rap artist/performer, who was luckily chosen to play a “pirate from the Philippines” from a pool of 4,000+ aspirants. Considered to be his first-ever acting audition, Michael takes this chance given a huge break for the Hollywood scene. His Hollywood journey would take him from his home of Hawaii, across 11,000 kilometers to London, where his scenes in “On Stranger Tides” were shot.
Daphne Joy on the other hand who came from a humble lineage in Olongapo, Philippines counting the recent hit ‘Just Go with It’ and such popular ‘TV shows’ as ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,’ ‘Criminal Minds’ and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ to her credits.
It was also said that Daphne’s family moved to LA, California when she was just 8-years old, but it never made her to forget her Filipino culture and upbringing.
By the influence of her new country’s pop culture, Daphne Joy was growing up holding the attention in entertainment along her involvement in choir, dance groups, talent shows, and even in cheerleading. At the age of 18 she became more interested in acting, and not so long after found her self working in front of the camera.
Daphne's Pinoy raw talent was also displayed in several lists recording artists’ music videos, along with national print campaigns, commercials, magazine covers and features. Daphne will be playing the role of a mermaid in the movie.
